I’m pleased to announce the release of my 8th book, Skoll’s Diary.

Africans and African Americans left Earth in 1900, and went to another planet in The Milky Way to escape mistreatment…

It’s now the year 3005 on that terraformed planet. We get a peek into the life of a bright and sensitive teenaged boy, Skoll, through his journal. He loves his world, but is curious about life on Earth. Then suddenly, an epic event casts him in the middle of a difficult decision. The fate of the planet’s community is in his hands.

Lady Rougepen Says: Check Out this Flower Power

Spring has sprung, and dandelions are everywhere! I discovered an interesting tidbit about this cheerful, yellow flower’s etymology. The name “dandelion” refers to the jagged petals that look like lion’s teeth. In French, it’s “dent de lion.” We ran that phrase together, and over time, it became “dandelion.”

Neat, huh?

Book Review: The Queen’s Heart

Title: The Queen’s Heart

Author: Rori Bleu

Genre: Historical fiction

Number of pages: 275

Rating: 4.5 stars

Get the book here.

I was attracted to this book because I adore stories about powerful women. Queen Beatrice gets widowed, early in the story, and must step up to the plate to rule Olmstead. She does so with a cool head and astute measure. She has good relations with neighboring villages and traders, and her people are happy. Everything seems idyllic…until a coup makes Queen Bea show what she’s truly made of. The women in this story are not simply decoration or shrinking violets. There needs to be more books like this.

My only criticism is that there were a few mistakes, and I would have shaved off a few sentences here and there because showing the reader is more powerful than telling. But as an author, I grade a bit harder in that regard.

This book is written with simple, Anglo-Saxon words, yet it stimulates the imagination. I imagined the insistent clinking of the cutlasses as they hit in battle. I easily visualized the castles and the village pubs. The Queen’s Heart is full of military strategy, intrigue, and edge-of-your-seat action.
